Bellevue Pain Clinic offers services to help manage chronic and acute back pain from Sciatica, Peripheral Neuropathy, motor vehicle and work injuries. When you suffer from back pain every part of your life can be affected. One activity that can be hard to give up because of back pain is gardening We’ve come up with some tips to help you with the back pain your have and to avoid increasing it at all.

  • Stretch – You may think that gardening won’t push your limits so you don’t need to stretch, but you’d be wrong. Warm up your muscles with a walk and stretch up and down and side to side. One good thing you can do is to touch your toes, but don’t just bend at your waist. Bend first from your neck and then visualize every vertebra curving down toward your toes and then gently hang. When you roll back up visualize each vertebra taking its place again in the spinal column.
  • Kneel – Even if it takes a little effort to get up again, it’s better to kneel to get those pesky weeds or dig a hole for a new plant. Go buy yourself some nice knee pads and save your back.
  • Lift correctly – We’ve all heard the rule that you should lift with your back and not with your back. This rule is a good one and you should also remember that when you are lifting something heavy to now twist your back.
